Your child can experience the 7 Benefits of Reading… now

Two girls

#1 Improve your child's Academic Performance

  • The motto still stands: Learn to read, read to learn.
  • To learn to read, is the most important academic skill your child has to master. To perform successfully, reading and comprehending adequately, is fundamental.
  • Learners that can read fluently with understanding can comprehend their study material, grasp the exam questions correctly, write related, correct answers and score higher marks in all subjects.

#2 Improve your child's Vocabulary, Grammar and Written Language

  • Elementary reading has to be mastered before written language can be successfully introduced.
  • Reading improves vocabulary and sentence construction, thus improving oral as well as grammar, spelling and writing skills.

#3 By reading adequately, your kid gains Confidence and a good Self-esteem

  • A child that reads fluently with comprehension has the courage and self-confidence to tackle unfamiliar, new challenges in class.
  • Unfortunately, the opposite is also true - when learners struggle to read well, they become discouraged and frustrated. A lack of confidence, low self-esteem and in some cases, anxiety follows.
  • In order to take the lead, self-confidence is needed.

#4 Improve their Concentration and Memory

  • When a child finds the content of a book interesting and the book is on their reading level, they will block out external stimuli and focus only on the content of the book. The child can concentrate for longer periods of time.
  • Reading improves memory – new neutrons (cells that transfer information) are produced in the brain.
  • Reading is exercising the brain.

#5 Expand their mind and Creative Thinking

Inventions and innovations are created out of imagination - that has its origin in reading. Reading helps to grasp new concepts and create new ideas. Readers do excel above their peers in creativity and innovations.

The printed word stimulates imagination

While children are reading stories, images of the actions and venues described in the stories are built in their minds. They use their imagination to come to solutions to problems - and thus create new paths to tackle a challenge.

#6 Help your child to discover new things – to gain Knowledge

A child has to understand that the world has so much knowledge to offer – and it can be found first-handed on the internet. Learners who have confidence in their reading ability can gather general knowledge, but also specific knowledge about certain topics they are interested in.

When your child can read fluently, they are motivated to read, love reading and a whole world of knowledge will be explored.

#7 They can read for Fun and Relaxation

Children who have adequate reading ability learn to like reading for fun; they enjoy reading as an activity they can perform on their own. They also learn about new activities, games and creative projects they can do.

Mamphela says

"The guides helped to improve the reading skill of my child.  Reading became fun for him. He learned how to spell, pronounce and write words. I will recommend the programme to all parents who are like me (without having teaching background) and who don't know how to assist their children with reading, especially in foundation phase."
